The Decision
I have always believed that in order to truly learn, grow and change, one has to walk through the fire themselves and head directly into the experience.
So many times I have said to Image Cycling riders as we ride, “You get nothing from nothing and there is no substitute for hard work, add a gear”. The change in gear is not only made to engage your legs and heart in a more physical way but also to represent the self-work that is called for in your life, mentally, as you make the decision to change it in some way.
It has been my life experience that we tend to avoid certain decisions because we know it will bring hard work and uncertainty into our lives.
Pain is a feeling we have been programmed to stay away from since birth. The truth is that the time spent waiting in contemplation, sometimes years, to make key decisions in our lives, we become frustrated, bitter and confused which leads to even more pain than making the decision, “walking through the fire and heading into the experience”.
What I do know is that we all want a meaningful and celebratory life and with that legacy your desire to change is inevitable. First you have to decide if you are worth it then decide to commit to it. Just don’t wait too long to realize it. Remember, “What you take with you when you die is what you leave behind.”
